My 2015 Speech
The 21st century and in the past
Talofa my name is Pela Tiata and I am hear to talk to you about what changes from the past to the future.
I am a 21st century learner. Back in the olden days the teachers were very strict, the teachers were the boss, they told us what to write down with a limited time.
Now in these days in the future it’s been changed. We get to question the teachers, we get to learn whatever we want, learn wherever we want and yeah also now this world is using digital technology like phones, I pads, tablets and much more.
In my opinion, 21st century style of learning is better, you are able to do things you weren’t allowed to do before due to technology, using technology has helped us a lot with our learning, we get to use the tool spell check to correct our spelling. You can share your learning with others to get feedback and advice from others.
The purpose for going to university or going school is to follow your passion, love what you do, get a good education and to prepare you for life.
Here are some tips of why we have technology 24/7.
- Technology helps us to access our learning tools/resources, share our learning, connect with experts learn.
- We can take our technology wherever we want like for e.g in the past they had to learn the same things in the same class , at the same time and had no technology, but now we can learn with other classes and use our chrome book and take it anywhere we want.
- We get to learn in lots of different spaces inside, outside, library and also different classroom with our technology.
Isn’t the future amazing well yes of course it is. What I will say is from now on walk towards your future and accomplish what you want in life . Thank you!

Explanation Writing
How and Why I shone at Kapo Kapo
I shone at Corinna school’s Kapo Kapo 2015 at The Arena. Heaps of school’s from Porirua came down to perform their amazing dance and there amazing songs. When I walked up on that stage my heart started pounding and my knees started sharking.
I shone when I self-managed really well on stage because I put a lot of effort into my performance. I am proud of myself because when I get nervous I decide to step out my comfort zone and to take a risk by facing my fear on the stage in front of people.
I shone by smiling and doing the pukana all the time. The important thing to remember is the actions and the words. When we do the wrong actions we will let Corinna school down and it will be embarrassing for us.
Another time that I shone at Kapo Kapo was when I was representing Corinna school by participating and contributing in Corinna school’s Kapo Kapo and always trying my best and never giving up.
I felt very proud of myself when I shone at Kapo Kapo because in my opinion I think I want to do Kapo Kapo all the time.

The Day I Went to Jerry Collins Funeral
I felt very proud when I was chosen to go to Jerry Collins's funeral.
We had to be very respectful because we were representing Corinna School and our family.
Kapo kapo Learning Story
On Tuesday night, the 23rd of June we had Kapo Kapo. It was packed at Te Raupara Arena, and it was dark too.I really enjoyed being on the stage in front of heaps of people. It made me feel very proud to represent my school and my culture.
I was scared when I first went on the stage, but then I got use to it and tried my best.
The skills that I used on the stage is going hard out and always using sharp actions, pukana and smile when you need to.
It felt like I was living a dream. It felt so nice to be on that stage and performing in front of heaps of people.
Every time when there is a song to pukana then you have to pukana and if its to smile then we had to smile. That's what I learnt in Kapa haka and at Kapo kapo.
Here is a link to the video of Corinna School at Kapo Kapo: Corinna School at Kapo Kapo (Te Rauparaha Arena)
Kapo Kapo was really fun because you can get to perform in front of people and also because heaps of people are cheering for you and others.

Pela's Kapa haka Learning Story
In Kapa haka I have been Learning to use sharp action's,go hard out when I'm doing the haka, Pukana or smile when I need to but most of all be disciplined. I away's listen to Whaea Clair and what she is saying. I can follow her instruction's quickly and respectfully.
I have to do sharp actions and not stick out. It is important to give everything you got because people will see that you are enjoying yourself and love being on stage.
On Tuesday the 23rd July, I went to Kapo Kapo for kapa haka. I gave it my best and enjoyed myself. It was scary at first when I was walking on stage because I could see everyone’s eyes were on me! But after a while I started to feel proud that I was representing Corinna at kapo kapo.
When someone is talking and distracting me I just tell them that they need to be disciplined. It is important to listen to Matua David and Matua Todd because he is telling us more about the Maori culture and why we should feel proud that we are in kapa haka. I remember Matua Todd telling us that back in his days if he didn't put his arms straight or do the pukana in the haka, Someone will come around and whack him, so he would put his arms straight and do the pukana in the haka. Matua Todd said we were lucky that no one came around and whacked us but instead we have to be told to the pukana in the haka.
It's been a pleasure being in kapa haka because it makes me feel clam. It’s like doing zumba but when it comes to haka you have to give it all your best.

Good Friday Learning Story
In Good Friday we are setting up a restaurant for people to come and also the restaurant people are making the sign and the other people are making some flowers also the other group are place mats for Room 3 restaurant.
How I relate to others in Good Friday is that I always help out people who is stuck or who needs help for planing for Good Friday. In Good Friday I use kind words not bad words to upset them
(For example:)If I say kind words like"It's alright and don't worry they will maybe saying in their head"WOW Pela really relate's to others and it's good.
Relating to others is like being friendly but not bullying and saying bad words to people. My evidence is that Arielle,Manea,Philomena and Memory has seen me relating to others and also they have seen me being kind.
For example: Arielle said"Pela was being kind all day and didn't even say one bad word or was being mean to us".Then Manea,Philomena and Memory also agreed with Arielle.
I can also relate to other's anywhere I go.Relating to others is important because we all want to be friendly and we don't want to see Corinna school a unfriendly school. So that's what we do in Good Friday. When we are working together we need to remember to stay relating to others and to be nice and kind.
Me and my group did a Recipe book and here is the link:
Recipe book.We had been working so hard on our recipe book.
My next step is to not change any relationship with friend's, keep being kind and step up to be a role model to the younger children.

T2 Writing Learning Story
In writing I have been learning to use what I've learn't from my reading to help me describe explain in my own writing. I look for good key words in my book to help me and give me ideas for my writing.
I can use adjectives, adverbs, similes, metaphors and descriptive phrases and more...
These words helps me with my writing because I can describe the character and what's going on in the story.
Here is an example of my conscription story about my son going to WW1.
Then knock went the door. “The army people are here to take you”I said.So then my son ran down the stairs and he said to me” Okay, this is finally happening to me mum.I replied”Good luck son and i will hopefully see you again”. So then my son hugged me and said” good bye mum”.Then later on they left.
Evidence:Later in the year I listened to the radio and they were talking about the war. They said that thousand’s of people had died during war.
What we have been learning in our writing is to hook the readers head and to also paint a picture so that the reader understands what the story is happening.
It is hard but that is a way to be a level 4 writer.

T2 Reading Learning Story
In reading I have been learning to....
Find heaps of information about wars like the Vietnam war, WW1, WW2 and Korean war. We had been going on the Internet and other website that helps us to find information.
We have been working hard to find loads of key information about wars also finding about (Why did N.Z's get involved in wars?) so we used books from the library to find information about wars and also we used school Journals to help us too. The skills that I was using to find information to go with our question is doing skimming and scanning.
This is a link to my research:
World war 1 fact jigsaw
I used my prior knowledge about what I know about wars. I asked wondering questions to my buddy & I asked (How many N.Zer's went to war and how many of N.Z's lost there life's), I had to re-read or re-write my information just to see if it was the right information.
What I learnt about WW1 was that New Zealand and Australia landed on a beach down at Gallipoli. Some of them got of the boats and survived but some didn't get a chance to get of the boats and also some of them lost there live's.
This is a link to a video of me reading the journal story "Least we forget":Reading story, Explaining story
This is a level 4 book and it is a Year 8.
Evidence: Pela's New Zealand at war.

T2 Math's Learning Story
In math's I have been learning to solve problems in my group by using partitioning also using basic facts so we can solve the problem quickly.
When we are doing maths we do friendly arguing by not being nasty to the other person but by saying nice words like for example( If you say that you disagree with their idea we need to remember to say it in a nice good way).
We always work together as a team and in a group. This means we share our brainy mathematical ideas and strategies with our team group so everyone understands the problem and how to solve it.
When we do math's we ask questions. If I or my group don't understand well I will say "Can you please repeat that again for me please?" or "Why did you choose that strategies and Is it easy for you to work the problem out with that strategies??
Every time when we do math's we always look out for passengers because we remember that when ever we do math's there are no passengers allowed on this waka. This means everyone needs to participate and contribute.
